OLD LIVERPOOL - This book was intended in the first instance merely to advertise a Sale of Work in aid of a local church. It was thought however that it might serve a more useful purpose if issued as a brief history containing interesting and reliable information about the Liverpool of by gone days.

The author, the Rev Richard Postance, is indebted to many of the related facts and takes in details from Ancient Liverpool, Memories, Enfield’s Liverpool and The Streets of Liverpool.

The book will be reproduced with pictures to show a very rare glimpse in to Liverpool in the 1880’s.

WILLIAMSON'S TUNNELS - The Williamson Tunnels are a series of large subterranean excavations in the Edge Hill area of Liverpool, England, which were created under the direction of tobacco merchant, landowner and philanthropist Joseph Williamson between 1810 and 1840.

Although popularly described as "tunnels", the majority comprise brick or stone vaulting over excavations in the underlying sandstone. The purpose of the works remains unclear and quarrying, a philanthropic desire to provide employment, and Williamson's own eccentric interests have all been suggested.

Discover the history behind the Williamson's Tunnel's from rare documents and how to visit the tunnels today.
